Totally leg warmers, sorry Gud.
Oh my head.
I've seen the shoes I used to wear with dresses in junior high on a lot of art school girls. Not quite flats, but really low-heeled dress shoes with slightly odd shaped heels. Often white. Like these:

I am totally with kat. Which is why I give a (slight) dispensation to people who didn't do the 80s the first time.
I wish I still had my journal that describes my second-favorite outfit from fifth grade: purple corduroys, purple striped legwarmers, purple sweater with the rainbow applique my grandmother sewed on....
I just bought a black and white polka-dotted blouse the other day. It's part of my effort to expand my wardrobe beyond t-shirts.
What was your first favorite?

Sounds like a Barney disguise. Well, the cowboy hat would give you away.
It's actually making me feel really sad that I can't get on the 80's revival love train. There was a time, not so long ago, when I was one with the Junior's section and looked to it for my fashion forward cues. Now I go into and H&M and I'm all "Darn kids. Get offa my lawn." I feel so old.
What was your first favorite?
Sadly, I don't remember. I guess we didn't have to write in our journals that day.

I think I can top that. Picture a 7-year-old me in 1973, wearing a burnt orange jumpsuit with knicker legs, with chocolate brown buttons and front pockets. I thought it was sooo cool at the time, but all I can think of now is pure UGH!
You might want to skip "I Gotcha" (it's the first number in the Red Dress). Unless you like trainwrecks of the complete mismatch between voice and material.
The
Liza with a Z
discussion was earlier this morning, but man did that show RULE. People should see it-- choreography by Fosse! It's completely nuts. For that reason I actually like the Gotcha song. I was fairly bored by the first bit with the white suit but once she started in with the choreography and the short short skirt and the dancers who look like bathhouse pimps, I was completely hooked.
SO not old enough to dress myself in the eighties. Well, maybe towards the end, but that usually ended badly.
Your age wasn't the reason it ended badly.
The
age was.
I don't mind dropped waist, but right now the stores I go into are totally full of empire waist tops, and I adore that. I'm sure I'll look back on all of it as a maternity wear faux pas, but right now, I like how it fits my breasts and camouflages my lack of hip.
Oh, and TEENY LITTLE DENIM SKIRTS. They bug me from a shopping PoV.
