I have to point out that they've been flying them for almost forty years, and very few noses have broken off. I'm gonna give the engineers from Lockheed (not Boeing) the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Hey, I said rant, didn't I? I think rants have lesser RDA for sense-making than normal conversation. That's my story, anyway.

The C-130s flew for several decades with few incidents and then had a rash of failures in an 18 month span. There was an overhaul and the problems stopped. (I had a cousin killed in one of them, my knowledge is therefore emotional and somewhat spotty). Sometimes things age badly.
