All the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipes I am looking at call for shortening. Is this normal?
I've seen a lot of cookie recipes that call for shortening. I usually substitute butter. This can affect texture and taste, however. I think it affects taste for the better, but then I think dairy fat improves many things.
someone needs more work to do.
anyhoo, I've cooked with shortening my whole life. less now than I used to , but it is what I use in pie crust and some cookies.
Speaking of cookies/baking/etc., a tribute to Alton Brown!
I think my twin sister stiff armed an 11 year old girl to catch the bouquet at my wedding.
Her marriage lasted 7 months.
Shortening isn't lard, necessarily. Like Crisco is shortening and it's solid vegetable oil.
ETA is ALWAYS solid veggie oil
I think of shortening as lard, but I think that's wrong.
At Kat n' lori's wedding, I think Kat tossed the bouquet, but I can't remember because Too Much Champagne and Too Much Buttercream Frosting made me pass out in a drunken sugar coma for 12 hours.
We did have a Gay Wedding Tree decorated with pink flamingos, though. I think that's the best beginning of a tradition, ever.
