Eh, pack plenty of immodium and enjoy. A family we were friends with did a sabbatical and basically did everything you weren't supposed to and were fine. But I wouldn't drink the tapwater. There was an NPR story on water issues in MC and it wasn't pretty.

Mole! Beef! Enchiladas! Tortillas to die for!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Pretty much the two things not to do are drink tap water and hail a cab. Hailing cabs leads to "express kidnapping" -- they take you, make you go to the ATM, and then let you go. Still, more trouble than I'd prefer to get into in a foreign country.

Leave your atm card at home! No issues!

Heh. I think not hailing a cab will be easier -- they have cab stands and radio cars, so it's not like we're stranded. Also, I totally want to take the subway. Not that we'll have more than about 10 free hours over the week.

I kept boggling this week over the fact that the city has 22 MILLION people in it. And it's in an old lake! 22 MEEELION! I live in a city under 3/4 million. And it feels big.

They actually ended up arranging the site visits by location rather than subject area, because it just takes so long to get from place to place. OK. I guess I should go to bed. Crap! Forgot to call parents! I think it's too late now. Ah well. Oh, I can call from the airport, I guess. Anyway, have a good week, y'all!

Oh, and PS: the city itself is only 8 million -- it's the metro area that's 22. Edit: Or possibly 11 and 26, depending on the website. Hmph.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Just spent a couple hours in a smoky dive bar downtown.(The decor was a mix of pictures of naked women, musical instruments and stuffed and mounted animals) A friend was playing there, otherwise I'd never set foot in the place.

Last night we went to see Billy Joel, which was fun.
