Mal: How come you didn't turn on me, Jayne? Jayne: Money wasn't good enough. Mal: What happens when it is? Jayne: Well... that'll be an interesting day.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Where did Rice Garden move, and which restaurants closed?

Trust my rage

See, I thought she was just really old. I'm not sure I feel any better now. Our NPR station just picked her up in the last year and I don't know why.

lisah, i'm so sorry to hear about the baby who died. Joe and I both were very sad for her and her parents last night.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Grrrr. Just sent off a Personnel Action for a new hire (which notifies a chain of people who need to deal with that, and also goes up a hierarchy chain) and it got dinged because the salary wasn't right.

Now, I put the salary that was on the offer letter, which is what I'm supposed to do. But the salary schedule has changed between the time the offer letter went out (Dec) and now (almost March). So I talked to LA!Boss about this and she got all snippy that we should have known about the change.

Which is all fine and dandy, except (a) I'm not high up enough to possess a salary grid; and (b) they're changing the salary strucgture again and it hasn't been officially approved as yet. Not that I would know since I'm not in that loop.

Fucking organizational stupidity. Your system is stupid! Don't act like I'm stupid because I did what I'm supposed to! Besides which - LA!Boss approved it and it got dinged at Firmwide. Which is why she's grumpy about it.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

Samurai Sam's - Chinese. GREAT chicken teryaki.

One of these things is not like the other. Is it a Japanese place, perhaps? Or one of those random mix of asian dishes places?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I feel like an ageist (if that's a word) saying this, but I can't stand to listen to her.

She's actually rather young, but yeah, her throat condition gives her total Old Lady Voice. I just can't bear it.

She's quite elegant and lovely in person.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

We recently hired an editor -- who sits 3 feet from me -- with Diane Rehm voice. And yeah, it's hard to bear.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

Genes are cool -- Mixed-race couple gives birth to black and white twins.

Both Kylie and her partner Remi Horder, 17, are of mixed race. Their mothers are both white and their fathers are black.

According to the Multiple Births Foundation, baby Kian must have inherited the black genes from both sides of the family, whilst Remee inherited the white ones.

The odds against of a mixed race couple having twins of dramatically different colour are a million to one.

The family picture in the article is really striking.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Punishingly Intricate

thanks Stephanie. I'm so sad my nieces never got to meet their little cousin. It must be so confusing for them.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I like Diane Rehm's Friday show where she talks about the week's events. That's it.
