In re Capote:
It was wearing, Matt. But fascinating, too. PSH earned that Oscar.
I will say, although the voice/lisp really stood out for me at first (I knew the real Capote was distinctive-sounding, but didn't know exactly how), it soon became "invisible" to me. I literally stopped noticing it, about halfway through his first visit to Kansas.
I went to an Oscar party with a gang of sisters, who compete for stickers by predicting the winner in advance, and the owner of the most stickers at the end of the night wins a tiny felt Oscar the Grouch. When Crash won, we all screamed laughter, because the eventual possessor of 8 stickers had been the only one to vote for it (indeed, to vote for anything but Brokeback Mountain ), and she'd been predicting all night that it would win, over our vociferous skepticism.
And for all that, she was not the winner of the Grouchy Oscar!
There was hilarity and McVitie's digestive biscuits. (It was a British theme.) There were plastic flowers. It was a whole big silly thing.
I dreamt last night that I found a big, hard, baseball size lump on my inner thigh. When I woke up, I kept poking myself to see if I really had any tumors growing anywhere.
I don't get what was insincere about Reese's speech. But I love her and loved her as June Carter so whatevs.
Pissed at Hoffman for not barking though.
haha me too! Just one little bark would have sufficed. But he was all thanking his mom and shit.
Definitely Eggshell, Tom.
Another vote for eggshell.
Chez Zmayhem is filled with bitterness this morning. I'm still feeling ferociously partisan and aggrieved on behalf of BBM (Hec hasn't seen it, but he is willing to take my word for it), and Emmett is full wroth at March of the Penguins winning Best Full-Length Documentary. "That movie sucks so bad! All the penguins do is march around and get eaten!" He was not at all appeased by the production team coming up to make their speeches with giant teddy penguins.
Emmett is full wroth at March of the Penguins winning Best Full-Length Documentary.
What was he rooting for? (I haven't seen the Penguin movie but was kind of hoping Murderball would win. I loved that.)
My boys growled at Penguins winning too. They hated it.
I haven't seen most of the films so I can't vote for the winners. Oh well. Seems that many were surprised with the outcome.
I did enjoy Jon though. I thought the opening was fun and the promo ads very fun. I think the review was way too harsh on my man.
He hadn't seen any of the others, but he was brimming with confidence from the moment he heard the words MOTP: "I don't know which one it'll be, but for sure it won't be that one. That will so lose! You watch how much it loses! It's so bad!" When it was over and he was swimming in impotent outrage, Hec rubbed his back and comforted him by pointing out that this will be good practice for a lifetime of being infuriated and baffled by the way other people vote.
