Oh, yeah. There was this time I was pinned down by this guy that played left tackle for varsity... Well, at least he used to before he was a vampire... Anyway, he had this really, really thick neck, and all I had was a little, little Exact-O knife ... You're not loving this story.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Ha ha, I love it!

Edward's family may not sing and dance on their own variety show but they do play vampire baseball. That's not me trying to be funny. They actually play vampire baseball.

And, hee, Cleo is funny!

"Yeah, it's like, Bella wants to be a vampire but she doesn't want to be a vampire before she's had sex as a human, and Edward doesn't want her to be a vampire but he wants to get married, but Bella doesn't want to get married unless she can be a vampire, but Edward won't have sex with her until they get married, and then you put the fox and the grain in the boat and you leave the goose back on the riverbank."

“Not dead yet!”

The video interview they link to with Robert Pattinson is pretty interesting too. Says some very revealing things--

I knew it had to be Dave White from the bit you quoted.

I heart him.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I haven't read Twilight and don't plan to, but I HAVE to know - what is vampire baseball?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I haven't read Twilight either, but I have a question based on the screening of the movie DH went to last night. (Whitefonted in case this is a movie spoiler.)

So apparently, in the movie, Native Americans are werewolves who are at war with the vampires. Since the vampires are (a) the good guys in this fight and (b) REALLY REALLY FUCKING WHITE, my question is - are the books this racist, or did the movie make this shit up???

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Jessica, the movie's not making it up. The author's Mormonism is a strong influence on her writing.

(spoiler font)

So, the Book of Mormon claims that one of the original Tribes of Israel split off, went to the New World (this becoming Native Americans), and became the Lamanites. The dark skin of the "Lamanites" (and other, dark-skinned peoples) is considered a mark of the curse that God put on them when they turned away from Him. To say I, personally, consider the BoM racist is an understatement, but some people are quick to point out that there's no explicit condemnation.

Aha - that makes perfect sense. Thanks.

Well, and I only read the first book, but technically, aren't MOST vampires still bad? I mean, the ones that the chickie in the book likes are good cause they've given up eating people, so the werewolf Natives have come to an uneasy truce with that family, over the years, but still don't want her to like them, etc. But most vampires still eat people, so they're bad, adn should be hunted by the werewolves, or whatever?

OK, since no one will tell me, I'm going to have to make a guess about what vampire baseball is ... where you know both teams suck?

Ann, that's a ferret.

Either that, or a night game.
