You're right. He's evil. But you should see him naked. I mean really!

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Shit's all sorts of different now.

So I'm reading What Looks Like Crazy On an Ordinary Day.

I adore this book. It has officially rocketed to the top of my favorite books ever. Plus, it takes place in Michigan which is always awesome and it takes place in Idlewild, which the Michigan Historical Society (or some such group) is working on restoring back to it's glory days and turning it back into a resort town. My parents cottage is about 40 miles or so away.

But, I LOVE Ava. She is just magnificent.

I just finished Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains, which is about international health physician Paul Farmer, who runs (among other things) a clinic in Haiti.

So inspirational. Also rather guilt-inducing. Marvelously written. And I suspect my brother knows this guy...

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Awesome review, Hec! (And thanks for linking, Corwood.)

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I broke into such a smile on the opening line:

For better or worse, the entries in Continuum’s 33 1/3 series have a reputation of being serious, analytical, and largely humorless studies of various classic albums.

'cause you know just where that's going.

Nice job, Hec!

He's speaking here next week. My book club read the book - inspirational, but also, the dude is a little nuts. I mean, I think it's irresponsible to marry and have a child if you live like that.

"Sure it’s kinda geeky, perhaps even borderline psychotic"

Awww...that's our Hec, all right!

Seriously, nice review!

That's an unfortunate juxtaposition with talking about Hec and his book....

In many ways Smay’s book is actually a better study of Waits’ music and life than the few recent (and much longer) biographies. The major elements of Waits’ music, and how many of those elements originated with Swordfishtrombones, are all addressed with a mixture of well-researched information and hilarious anecdotes and interpretations.

Oh, wow. That's an absolutely fantastic review. Bravo! And congratulations, Hecubus! We knew you when!

That is a wonderful review.
