Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
Oooh! Thanks, ChiKat!

This is one of my options, as it's in walking distance. It doesn't list the other place I could walk to. But this one does sound like a blast.

Duuude! I may have to stop by this on the way back from work. The Knight Bus! Aww.
Chicagoistas--I will be at the Hilton Gardens in Evanston this weekend. Are there nearby bookstores where I could pick up the book? I am hoping to read it on the flight home and have assumed I won't have to reserve a copy and can just stroll in somewhere and pick one up. BTW, I would love to see all of you, but I will be at a family reunion and EVERY FREAKING SECOND is scheduled with events involving many many people I share the same DNA with. I am not exaggerating.
OOOH! OOOH! OOOH!
Borders stores (including downtown Ann Arbor, Arborland, Brighton and Borders Express at Briarwood Mall) will host a Grand Hallows Ball starting at 9:30 p.m. Magical attire or muggle finery are welcome. Expect a Potter spelling bee, a Great Snape Debate and the crowning of a king and queen of the ball. Prizes include a chance to win the first place in line.
Must to be getting Magical Attire together!!
Oh, this reminds me. Did anyone else see the crap the Warner is trying to pull re Harry Potter release parties: [link]

The Ann Arbor Borders is the one I went to two years ago, Aims! It's a good time. Looks like they're doing even better this time. That sounds awesome.
Kevin, thanks. I wasn't sure how reliable or current the info was, but I hated the thought of a non-USian standing waiting for the book that wasn't going to come (it's Harry Potter, not Godot!).

Yes. tommyrot works in Evanston, so he might be able to tell you specifics. But, that hotel is in downtown Evanston. Tons of shops nearby. Any hotel staff could point you in the right direction.
The HP situation in the UK is down to profit margins. There's a price war on. So people are selling it for half the RRP here just to get the business, which is leading the usual toys out of prams. I feel sorry for the average book store - they're going to get nothing from HP, and haven't for years, due to ASDA Walmart, Tesco etc bickering.
