Storygraph is working out pretty well for me so far. I've done one buddy read and that was fun. I am still apparently very resistant to reviewing or even giving anything stars but I very much enjoy the pie charts and having even part of my TBR ready to browse through in one place (I do wish I could tag books with what platform I have them on, have not figured out a way to do that) seems like it will be super useful if I ever get caught up enough on library books to read something I own
74% through Audrey Lane Stirs the Pot, not sure how I feel about it yet
The plot of this book so far is "two women who do not know each other make one friend each.
That is a more intriguing description than the actual description I found when I googled...

I was so irritated by
Paris Daillencourt
(not looking up how to spell that) that I haven't picked it up. Is it at least better than that one? Alexis Hall used to be an always-buy for me, but his work over the past few years has been hit or miss.
I am still VERY much looking forward to
Hell's Heart
(because...sapphic Moby Dick in space) and cautiously looking forward to
Father Material
(because I still want to spend time with this cast of characters)
Better than that so far, I am kind of braced for it to take a turn and annoy me but maybe it won't? Will report further when I finish it. My favorites of Hall's characters, I think, tend to be kind of awful but you like them anyway? And if you don't like them like you are supposed to they are just awful. And I'm not sure how these are going to land yet.
I am SO EXCITED for Hell's Heart! I really liked the Prosperity books and for some reason I think that means I will especially like this one (on top of Moby Dick in space with lesbians, which is already pretty great). I am hopeful for Father Material but cautious. A footnote in probably one of the Spires reissues made me worry that he doesn't actually know why Boyfriend Material was so good (*probably* that was not the case and he was just being clever in the footnote but other creators have VERY CLEARLY not known why the stuff they were doing was good so I worry) but Husband Material was great and I have read 10 Things That Never Happened four or five times trying to figure out what precisely is wrong with it and have concluded that those particular problems are unlikely to spread, so maybe more hopeful than cautious. OTOH, the very title kind of fills me with dread.

Hahaha I couldn't even make it through once.
That's so much more sensible!
I got maybe 15-20% in and was like... I kind of hate both of these guys and I don't care what happens to them. I assume they get together in the end, they probably deserve each other (and the cat).
Sigh - my subject matter expertise in hockey smut continues to be Unfortunately Relevant At Work. I am thrilled for Rachel Reid that the Game Changers books have broken containment and are finding new fans, but I would also maybe prefer to be known at the office for being smart about other things. Any day now...
(Every time these books come up, someone in the meeting will ask "what is Game Changers" and there is a PAUSE while about half the room internally debates how much detail is a normal amount to know.)
That is unlikely to happen at my work and now I am grateful for that!

See, I actually really like the POV character, aside from the whole, um, premise of the plot
Hahah I have read way way too much hockey smut of all varieties (mm, mf, ff) and nobody is asking for my expertise
Maybe you should consult, Jess can patch you into meetings as needed
