Well, if we followed the recipe...should be cake. A demon-violence-free-zone cake.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Have not read any of the Grishaverse, probably should.

Yes, you should. I love the Grishaverse so so so so much! And there is going to be a TV show based on it on Netflix in April.

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

I love my local bookstore, I know that freight times are best guess right now, but 9 days is a long time to wait.

(Winter's Orbit, for the curious. Yes, I have The Course of Honour backed up in multiple places, but - is a book!)

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

OK, then, I will get on that. (ETA Grishaverse, that is, although I am also getting a sample of Winter's Orbit to remind me to get that too)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hec, you should read A Deadly Education (Naomi Novak, first in The Scholomance series) for a different but very well thought out and highly enjoyable take on magical education.

I have been curious about that one as well.

Amy I saw the SBTB review of that and was wondering, how different is it from the AO3 version? Because I did love that one, and a few of the details in the review sounded slightly different, but not sure I need to buy if it’s 95% the same.

I also recommend Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas for dark academia.

meara, I am only four chapters in, but it looks as if she's digging more into the political aspects? So if that's not of interest to you, you might not need to buy. I will report back if my opinion on that changes!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm working my way through the Harrietta Lee series by Stephanie Ahn. I'm about halfway through book 2, Bloodbath. It's a series centered around a Korean American lesbian private eye in an urban fantasy NYC. It scratches my Hellblazer itch.
