Get up...get up, you stupid piece of... What did you do that for? What's wrong with you? Didn't you hear a word he said? All of you! You think there's someone just going to drop money on you?! Money they could use?! Well, there ain't people like that. There's just people like me.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Sorry, yes, I *did* buy it today because it is $1.99 and I will say "why not?" to a lot of things at that price. Up to $4.99, really, although that adds up fast and I should not be so spendthrifty. I looked it up because y'all were talking about it but not specifically because I expected it to be $1.99.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I have read a LOT of absolute garbage this year because it was available on Kindle Unlimited and I was trying to put myself on an eBook budget. So anytime something good is on sale, yes, snap it up!

I tried to stick to Kindle Unlimited, Jess, but unless I stumble across a whole series that I actually like that is all available there (which happened at least a couple of times and was awesome) I get discouraged after trying to wade through an unreadable mess that was in my "Picks for You" or whatever. And then because I tried it the author will keep showing up in my recommendations and I have to remember that, no, I do not recognize that name because I like them...

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I started My Dark Vanessa this afternoon.

I have to always decide what I’m reading next or I lose my momentum.

Yeah, I gave up on kindle unlimited after trying it a couple times, because while I know there's good stuff out there (and semi-frequently am looking at a book and see it's available there), when I would try to find things to read, it was mostly trash. And not the good kind of trash that I enjoy reading, just....bad.

Though now we're getting all those end of year best books lists, so I have been opening a billion tabs on all my devices to remind myself to either buy them or get them at the library.

Because books.

Same, sj. It's easy when I have library books, but when I don't there are Too Many Choices.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

FYI: Next week Meorot SFF conference will take place virtually via live streaming, and there are three live events with authors (in English) that might interest some of you (full disclosure - I am usually part of the organizing committee when the con is happening in the outside world, but this year I haven't done much because my role is to be in touch with the compound supervisors when the conference is taking place in a physical place).

There will a conversation between Seanan McGuire and Keren Landsman on plagues (Thursday, 17/12, 6:00pm Israel time), and a conversation and a Q&A with Karin Lowachee (Thursday, 17/12, 7:00pm and 9:00pm Israel time, respectively).

The website is mostly in Hebrew, but I can help interested parties to buy tickets and access the live stream. A ticket to access everything is minimum 1.55$ (it's a pay-as-you-like system), including access to the conversations in the next 6 months. Let me know if you'd like to watch these events and I'll help.
