Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

I finished The King of Attolia yesterday, which is the sequel to The Queen of Attolia, which is the sequel to The Thief. I started reading them because the author is the aunt of one of my best friends, and I have Zero Regrets. I didn't LOVE the books at first, but liked them enough to keep going. Whatever the opposite of Diminishing Returns is, that's what this series has, it just keeps getting better. I put the 4th one on hold at the library and the fifth is coming out next month apparently. So I have it WAY better than my friend and her friends, who started reading them in high school and had to wait years for sequels.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Oh, yes, epic, the Attolia/Eddis books are awesome. Cannot wait for the next one: I think I preordered it already.

And I loved the first one too, because it's so sneaky. The others are sneaky too, but in different ways.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I'm working at the library bookstore for the first time since ltc was born. The actual store, rather than shelving when it is closed, which I've done several times. I've been here a half hour and already found 3 book and convinced a nice couple to buy The Underground Railroad.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I just finished His Majesty's Dragon. It was tremendously fun. I went and bought the sequel the moment I finished the first one.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

So, the Skulduggery Pleasant series ended after book 9 a couple of years ago. But wait! There's a new book coming out June 1 in the UK! SO EXCITE!

Because books.

Man, I still have to read those! I have the first one on my Kindle, but I always forget that I have books on there.

Because books.

Report: Carousel Court by Joe McGinnis Jr. was fantastic, in the spectacular train wreck way of Gone Girl (it also shares a lot of similarities with Gone Girl, which is both good and bad, I think). Could not stop reading it once I passed a certain point, and he evokes this almost apocalyptic, hellish setting brilliantly. Phoebe and Nick (see? another Nick) are not the same as Amy and Nick, but their dynamic is very similar. I loved it, although I have some feelings to resolve about gender politics/representation.

Also, and I can't remember if I linked this already, does everyone have this: [link] ? It's a library extension for Amazon that tells you how many copies of a title are available in your local system, and allows you place a hold on it. I love this thing like cake.

Ooh, that sounds exceedingly useful!

ETA: extension installed, and I will be using the hell out of this! Thank you, Amy!
