There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

That was my thought, too. I only knew about 6 and I think I've only read 4.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

All those one word titles are so similar, I'm having trouble figuring out which I've read. I think maybe just the first trilogy. And if I've got 15 books to catch up on maybe I should just start at the beginning anyway, that was a long time ago I'm sure I've forgotten a lot.

Our wings are not tired.

I'm so confused! Has anyone else had odd pagination issues with Nook? I was psyched to finally read The Jewel and Her Lapidary, but I was confused with the page count being 50 when the Nook edition shows 80 pages. It was a whole and satisfying story so I don't think they chopped out 30 pages, but it was just peculiar that the page count was wrong.

So I wrote to them asking about the difference and they replied -

I have confirmed that the problem you described with "The Jewel and Her Lapidary " results from a content issue. Please respond to this email if you wish to have this order refunded while waiting for the NOOK Book's content to be fixed. You can repurchase the title at a later date after the issue has been resolved.

I replied that no, I didn't want a refund, but could they just update the content when they fix it.

This was the absolute only issue I had with the book, which is clearly an issue with Barnes & Noble and not with the author!

eta: but where my 30 pages be?

I somehow just managed to find this: "Nevertheless, she persisted" - a short fiction event on tor.com.

Laura - I find that pagination with e-books is extremely inexplicable. Whether they use page numbers or "location" numbers (as with Kindle).

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

The page numbers differ on the same ebook depending on whether I'm reading it on my phone or my computer. That's probably because of the difference in screen size, which affects the amount of text can fit on a given page.

I never had the page count be different than it said on the description. They said it was a "content issue" but I don't know what that means. Oddness.

Our wings are not tired.

Normally it takes 3-5 page swipes to turn page number, and that was the same as usual. I'm going to bring it up on the computer and see if it is different.

Ughh Laura - I don't know about the Nook at all but that's upsetting & I'll let people know. I have a couple copies left, if you want to hit me at my profile addy I can send.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

So, I can't remember who offered me a copy of Handmaid's Tale (Kat?), but I resigned myself to purchasing it, and figured that an ebook would be cheaper. Went to Amazon, and lo and behold, it was free with my Prime subscription. It's all tied up in the Kindle app, but it's perfect for a re-read.

Wanted to say thanks for the offer, and share this windfall (that everyone else probably already knew about).
