I couldn't read them- but I don't really get along with long books like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones either. The longest book I read for pleasure is probably either Gone with The Wind or Tommyknockers. And Tommyknockers almost killed me! I can read long non-fiction books, though.
I have also been reading a lot of historical by Courtney Milan- they are pretty amusing.
Tessa Dare's historical romances are also a lot of fun -- smart, sexy, light, but with kickass heroines. I've loved all of them.
Very long, multi-volume fiction is my thing so I was delighted. With added bonus of timey wimey. However, if Mary Sue's Jamie's nose, eyelashes, and body aroma were mentioned a few less times it would have been a much shorter series.

I love you people. I am laughing so hard right now.
Yeah. I'm about 20% into the first book. And just sort of.... meh. Like I don't care at all and time travel is not my favorite trope to begin with. See also why I don't watch Dr. Who.
I may give up soon.
Oh, the first Outlander book is a slog. The tv show is way better (the knitwear alone!). I also liked the 2nd book a lot more than the first and would like to read the 3rd.
Although I read the entire series I haven't yet watched the show. See also, Game of Thrones. I have Season 6 of GoT sitting on the DVR, assuming since I read it all I don't really need to watch from S1. I'll probably watch Outlander at some point too, but my to watch list is so long I am focused on things I haven't read.
Laura, I have to say, it's worth watching Game of Thrones from season 1. The show follows the book pretty well in the first couple of seasons but starts to differentiate itself in some major ways (often improvements, in my opinion) after that. If you jump straight in on season 6 you'll be pretty confused. At the least, you should read a plot summary of seasons 1-2 and start with season 3.
Plus, the first three seasons are just spectacular television (assuming you aren't squicked by the ultraviolence and random sexposition, of course).
