I'm all up in the law now, but damn it feels good to get my violence on.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

It is probably time for me to give Discworld a real try too.

Oh, yes, yes, yes. The world is a much better place with Sam Vimes in it.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

One of our besties is vehement that I should start with "Guards! Guards!" Does that sound like a good place to jump in?

Our wings are not tired.

I read them in order because that is how I roll, but "Guards! Guards!" has a serious wealth of wondrous prose in it. I often had to read aloud to let the family know why I was laughing so much.

You should read the City Watch books in order, because things do build on each other wonderfully. You should be able to find chronological lists all over. There are several separate groups of characters with their own series of books, and they occasionally intertwine. Other than the City Watch, I think the others can be read at random. Oh, expect for Tiffany Aching. Her development is fun to watch as well.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Like Connie says, the Watch books read very well in order because you can watch the characters grow and develop and be promoted and shit. And it's probably the strongest subseries in the series so it's a good start!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Suggestions? Minimum three published books: I crave a quest.

Iain Banks' Culture series.

Oh man, I've been meaning to read the Discworld books, too. I keep forgetting.

I am a MASSIVE proponent of starting with the Witches timeline (as laid out on this guide: [link]

Granny Weatherwax is one of the greatest characters ever created, and the Tiffany Aching books at the end are some of my all-time favorite, most utterly fun and charming books ever. Plus, wee, foul-mouthed blue Scots-like pixies (Nac Mac Feegles, the Wee Free Men) who enjoy beating the crap out of everyone. Plus, plus, Tiffany Aching, one of the best heroines ever.

Seriously. I'm getting weepy thinking about them being over.

I will admit that they kind of spoiled me for a lot of the other Discworld books, which I enjoy, but just can't measure up. Not a fan of Guards, Guards, though I also love the Death series.

Granny Weatherwax is one of the greatest characters ever created

This is very true.

Plus, plus, Tiffany Aching, one of the best heroines ever.

THIS IS ABSOLUTE TRUTH.
