I had a hard time getting into Scorpio Races because I think my idea of the mythical background was somewhat different from where the author went, but I did like it. I just ended up thinking of it more as just a horse book, kinda.
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
Did I talk about Zeroboxer here? I really enjoyed it, wished ita was around to get her take on how accurate the weightless fight scenes read (yes, I realize we don't actually have zero gravity boxing, but still, they felt very real somehow), went back to see who the author was and was delighted to discover it was an Asian woman with martial arts black & brown belts.
I know Fonda! She's awesome! And YES Zeroboxer is great!
I've been meaning to read Leigh Bardugo, too. Is Six of Crows part of the Grishaverse?
Yes. But it only takes place in the same world as the trilogy that started with Shadow and Bone. No real character overlap at all and in a different country. It's quite a deal better.

Seconded!

Fonda spent a lot of time on YouTube switching between videos of astronauts and videos of MMA.
Well, tell her, I loved the book! It all felt very accurate and natural, both in terms of the action and of the protagonist's progressions, as well as how the fighting fit into the storyline, which is something I don't think all fight books do well. Or all books with fighting at all.
will do!
Hey what SFF should I be excited about reading in 2016?
I would tell you, but I'm actually writing that up for Mind Meld SO.
Sox, Kate Elliott has at least one book coming out this year, I think. And another of Martha Wells' Raksura books. Plus doesn't Yoon Ha Lee's first novel come out this spring? (Which reminds me that I really need to read Conservation of Shadows, it's just that I'm terrible at short story collections, I much prefer novels.)
Right now I'm reading Years of Rice and Salt, which I never got around to before. It's quite interesting, although I'm not quite sure what the point is yet...
OH GOSH I FORGOT YOON.
YES FIXING
Oh good PC, you can list Cloudbound :P
