I thought Will Grayson, Will Grayson was overly twee. But I blame David Levithian for that.
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
I'm not even sure what twee means anymore.
I think having the big fat gay football player, in love every other minute with a new guy, write, direct and perform in a musical on his life is an affection that easily equals twee since it is meant to hit all of the sweet buttons. As you can tell, Will Grayson is certainly NOT my favorite.
Seriously, Kat? That sounds Glee!Ryan Murphy writing YA.
Oh. And did I mention that the nickname of the character, of course, is Tiny.
But yes. Seriously. I actively dislike David Leviathan books and it couldn't be saved by John Green.
Hey msbelle (and others)! There's a new Bernie Rhodenbarr book coming out! [link]
I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the twee. But I also liked Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (my only exposure to David Levithan solo).
ETA: I also read Boy Meets Boy! I remember now. But I really only remember the cover. Probably not a resounding endorsement.
I really liked The Fault in Our Stars, but I'm finding Looking for Alaska tougher going. I guess I knew that going in once I saw all the quotes comparing it to Catcher in the Rye, though. Whatever, Holden Caulfield.
I liked Paper Towns much better than Looking for Alaska.
Yoon Ha Lee has been writing short stories to prompts from friends the last week. This one is my favorite so far.
The court of the dogs met in a pack, in a circle in woods at the edge of the world where the night falls off into distances of infinite wild smells: pine, and water ever-running, and that sharp unshadowy tang of borders unbraided. There were huskies pale-eyed, and tall stern poodles, and German shepherds, and other dogs besides, including a beagle with his tricolor coat.
