Did anyone else read The Snow Child? It's lovely so far, but I'm anticipating heartbreak.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
Such great dialogue in that book. I bet it was great to listen to.
She cracked me up and made me tear up.

So far it's the frontrunner for favorite book in my yearly round-up. Everyone I've recommended it to has loved it.
I think the hardest part to read for me was the opener. And, unlike most books, I found the ending fairly satisfying.
Oh good. Because the opening is what's tripping me up. I mean, the language is beautiful, but it's bleak in a major way right now. I just got past where she tries to drown, hoping the ice will break, and it was just ... intense.
God, I need more caffeine.
As they say, it gets better.
I mean, it's still heartbreaking I guess, but in a different fairy-tale sort of way.

Indeed! I read it in on sitting as well.
Teppy, light a candle or something for me. I found a 1st ed. of Anne Rice's
Blood Canticle
at the thrift store the other day, so I'm finally going to read it. The first chapter with Anne Rice Lestat having the hissy fit over people not liking
Memnoch the Devil
was hilarious. Probably not the effect she intended, but it made me laugh.
Oh, holy cow. I have lit the candle of May You Enjoy The Spectacle and Not Throw The Book When It Ends.
I know I'll end up rereading The Vampire Lestat for consolation afterward. But it's an entertaining break/companion to the pre-Dracula vampire fiction I'm reading in prep for a panel I'm hosting at the end of the month.
