Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Because books.

Hey, Tep, I haven't been able to finish Anna Godbersen's first book in the 1920s series, so I wouldn't bother with it. If you were still interested.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

The book flap didn't grab me, so I wasn't going to read them. Good to know, though.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Speaking of Cold Kiss, it's a free book today on Nook. You can get an electronic version of the book you've already bought. (You have bought it, right?)

What's Bradbury's scariest story to you? For me, it's "Skeleton." I think about it whenever my bones hurt and shudder every time I remember the last line.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

What's Bradbury's scariest story to you?

"The Playground"! Yeesh, that's a gut punch. And there's a TV version of it from the show Ray Bradbury Theater starring Wm. Shatner. I haven't seen it though.

That's a story where I think you can see a direct influence on Harlan Ellison's short stories, especially something like "All the Birds Come Home To Roost." The horror of your past revisiting you.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Nevermind, thought you said King.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

What's Bradbury's scariest story to you?

I haven't read "The Playground" in ages. But his scariest story for me is "All Summer In A Day".

Really? I thought that was supposed to be the end of the week.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

I haven't read much Bradbury (yet!), but "The Veldt" creeps me the hell out. I read it at least ten years ago and it still lingers vividly in my imagination.

I'd suggest that you don't read "The Small Assassin" until Rose is much older.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

But his scariest story for me is "All Summer In A Day"

You mean "Children Are Bastards"?
