"The Playground"! Yeesh, that's a gut punch. And there's a TV version of it from the show Ray Bradbury Theater starring Wm. Shatner. I haven't seen it though.
That's a story where I think you can see a direct influence on Harlan Ellison's short stories, especially something like "All the Birds Come Home To Roost." The horror of your past revisiting you.

I haven't read much Bradbury (yet!), but "The Veldt" creeps me the hell out. I read it at least ten years ago and it still lingers vividly in my imagination.
I'd suggest that you don't read "The Small Assassin" until Rose is much older.
