Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Heyyy, juliana!!!!

Also: Betsy elsewhere pointed out a new Korval book was out in eARC (those who read Lee and Miller)...and I went to read the first few chapters only to realize I didn't have the book before THAT! I got so confused while they were reprinting earlier books in omnibuses that I didn't realize a new one had come out already. Of course, then I decided I wanted to re-read the preceeding books, only to find I can't FIND my copy (which I'm almost certain is in hardback) of Fledgeling. Grrr. I need to re-alphabetize my library, and I KNOW some of it is missing. eBooks are confusing me as to what I own and don't, too.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I've been on a reading binge lately. 3 different auditioning for film books, the 2 FitzOsborne books, Galileo's Daughter, and Snow Crash (finally). Plus all of the Amazon preview for 11/22/63.

I'm stoked folks are reading the FitzOsborne books! They're so great.

The third one is out in October.

I loved the FitzOborne's as well. Even though I kept thinking they were somehow incestuous.

I don't remember hearing about the FitzOborne books - what are they? (If something was posted and I skimmed past it, please bear with my skimming ways and tell me ... please?)

Toddson, it's a trilogy about an imaginary island off the coast of Spain, inhabited by a dozen fishermen, three princesses, and a mad king. The first one is called A Brief History of Montmaray, and it's rather like I Capture the Castle, except when it's not. It starts very sweet and domestic, and then the Nazis arrive...

The series goes through to the end of WWII and keeps getting deeper and more emotionally powerful. I loved the characters and the easy way the writer wove them into the true history of the time.

The first three have been published in Australia (that's where Cooper lives) but the 3rd one won't be out in the US until October.

Highly recommended for anyone who is enjoying the current run of Upstairs, Downstairs or who liked I Capture the Castle or, probably, any Ruritanian romances.

Thanks!

Many years ago I actually read The Prisoner of Zenda ... for what that's worth.
