Buffy: You tossed that vamp like he was a... little teeny vamp. Riley: You wanna go again? C'mon. I bet this place is just teeming with aerodynamic vampires.

'Help'

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Emma Holly had some good stuff (her older stuff--some erotica, and including the historical romances, but I haven't read her paranormals), but I didn't enjoy some of the more recent erotica as much (some of the sex scenes were still good, but the "plots" got more than a little ridiculous, and I like my erotica to be character-or-plot driven, and not just "hey, there's hot people! And they have sex! A lot! In different combos and different positions! Hello new person! Let's have SEXXORING!")

BDSM-ish.

Huh. I'm not so good on the "ish." (Everything I think of is less "ish" and more...intense.) Maybe Anais Nin? Although she's not BDSM-y.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Basically my friend heard a professional colleague going on about 50 Shades and, as a long-time ficreader (and occasional writer), made the mistake of saying, "Oh, there's much better-written stuff than that out there!"

--and the colleague said, "Titles and authors, please!"

So, as my friend cannot reveal herself as a ficreader, she needs to come up with something to tell the woman.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I'd second the Emma Holly recommendation - some of her earlier stuff. um ... Menage, Cooking Up a Storm, Velvet Fist (? not sure of that last title).

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I'm not familiar with any good novels on the theme, but if we're talking about improving on Stephenie Meyer-based fanfic with the serial numbers file off, maybe John Norman novels would suffice?

Because books.

Pam Rosenthal is pretty good, but historical. Eden Bradley is supposed to be good, although I haven't read her. There's also M.J. Rose.

Oh, and Pam Rosenthal's books written as Molly Weatherfield are also good, and less romancey.

I don't remember if anything by Collette was bdsm oriented. Also is Collette more explicit than you are looking for? Don't know what 'mom friendly' means.

I was going to recommend those, but they're pretty hard-core, and not at all romance-y. *I* love them because they're so damn word-nerdy and cerebral in addition to all the ponies (ponies yay!) and freaky shit, but I think anyone picking those up and expecting Fifty Shades of Fanfic is in for a big shock.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Yeah, not even having read twilight, but having the misfortune of reading about a quarter of a Norman before throwing it against a wall, I doubt that Twilight or Twilight fan fiction is worse than Gor.

Probably true, but I realized the others might not address the BDSM part, just the erotica part.
