Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Because books.

Oh, good.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

So Seanan McGuire's new book, Discount Armageddon, is out today, and I think it would appeal to Buffistas, given its Buffy-esque qualities. As I was reading it, I thought it would make a good TV show.

Tep, did you finish the last Luxe book? I did! I'm mostly okay with it, but a little underwhelmed.

Oh yeah, I did. I though that Henry's sudden change of heart about being all responsible and shit after his father died was a bit of an asspull, but I kind of feel like Diana is better off without him anyway.

The evil Snowden thing was a bit overwrought, I thought, and I could see the reunion with Teddy coming from a mile away, but, you know, happy endings.

And I actually felt a little sorry for Lina, but then it seemed like things turned out okay anyway.

I thought Penelope would have a much worse fate than she did, so I was a little bummed about that. I am apparently bloodthirsty.

Oh, me too, on Penelope. Although the way she and Henry settled for each other, taking the devil you know, was sadder than I expected, in its way, but given the era, probably fitting.

I was a little annoyed I called Snowden being evil two whole books before the reveal, but as far as character development goes, he had zero anyway, so. And yes on the reunion! I was happy about that, for both of them, but possibly a little more for Teddy .

Lina's had story started to read like a morality play to me, but then the ending did seem true to what happened in that era. And I was very glad she finally pulled her head out of her ass and reunited with her sister. I mean, the minute she inherited, she should have had her there, as staff, if nothing else.

I know! When I got to the part about Snowden being evil, it made me laugh because I remembered you asking if he was behind Will's death, and I said no. Because it didn't seem like it at the time.

I can't decide if I want to read her next series (is it Bright Young Things?), since I already added 3 books to my TBR pile in the past 2 weeks. t edit And a short story (or novella? whatever the Skulduggery Pleasant End of the World thing is considered).

Because books.

I have the first one in the Bright Young Things series on the Kindle -- I think it was free or $1.99 one day a few months back. It's very similar in tone and setup, but it's not grabbing me the same way so far. That said, I haven't gotten very far, and I was too busy with the Luxe books to get any farther.

How do you lend stuff via Kindle? Because I can absolutely loan it to you if you want it, but I have no clue how to do that.

Also, there are only two so far: Bright Young Things and Beautiful Days. The third one won't come out till later this year, which is going to be irksome if they turn out to be as cracky as the other series.

It might not be lendable -- I bought Envy (that's the only one I bought -- the rest were available at the library) for my Kindle, and I wanted to loan it to you, but that option was not available. It's set by the publisher. If you go to your Manage Kindle page on Amazon, there should be a dropdown menu next to each title, and I think that menu is where you lend it, if it's allowed.

Yeah, I checked and I don't see it. I need to read the John Green when it comes, but that's not till Thursday, so I'll dive back into BYT tonight and let you know what I think.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Crap, I'm already halfway through Crucible of Gold! I should savor it, but it's so nice to spend time with Temeraire and Iskierka again. Although I miss Perscita: I like her better than Iskierka, she causes far less trouble.
