Hmm, how creepy? Violent, scary creepy or just really disturbing? Basically can I read it?
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
le nubian, I adored The Historian, and it's definitely not my usual type of book. The text was pretty dense, and to be honest, it took me a month to read it, but I loved the story.
interesting. thanks for the comments folks. maybe i'll look up the 1st chapter and try it.
Cass, it is safe for you to read. Not violent, but scary creepy. I'll loan you my paperback the next time I see you. Because yeah, you would LOVE it. Historical research AND vampires!

It is a really dense read. And every time I read it, it makes me want to go on a non-fiction vampire binge. (Which I am going to do this time.)
It made me want to do a tour of Eastern Europe, and I'd never been interested in that region before. She really made the political history come alive.
Very cool, Jilli! And it sounds like I should add The Historian to my TBR list.

I really, really want to go to Slovenia and Transylvania. Mostly for family history reasons, but also because I am that kind of vampire geek and want to go visit Those Sorts of places.
I liked The Historian; I didn't LOVE it, because it seemed to lack a little action that I like, and the ending seemed to lack a little something I needed. It felt like sequel bat, and there's not going to be a sequel.
I understand the notion of an open ending perfectly well; it felt like she was just tired, and struggling for a way to end it. YMMV.
Huh. I was needing something to re-read tonight; maybe I'll revisit it.
But I do love the actual academic angle of it, and it was a good story.
I tried to read Kostova's next book: snoozefest, IMO.
Do y'all think if a person took a lot of iron supplements, it would make their blood toxic to sidhe?

That sounds fantastic. Thank you.
