A ghost? What's the deal? Is every frat on this campus haunted? And if so, why do people keep coming to these parties, cause it's not the snacks.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Everyone tell the dread spirits of eBay to be nice to me: I'm the current high bidder on a signed 1st edition hardback of The Vampire Lestat. It's not in pristine condition - there's a stain on the bottom edge of the book. But still! Signed! First edition! Oooh, I hope I win.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Somebody knows how to push my presets: All Men of Genius: mixes Steampunk, Hogwarts, crossdressing and Twelfth Night.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Ooo, that looks like fun!

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Oooh. That does look intriguing. That will go on my TBR list after "Cold Kiss."

I just finished the third book in the "Leviathan" trilogy, and I was well-pleased. I thought the part where Alek figured out that "Dylan" was really "Deryn" was very nicely done, as was its aftermath. It felt organic, and not too horribly contrived.

Also, I found the ending to be nicely satisfactory, although I would have liked to have gotten something about Volger's reaction to Alek's decision to not pursue his claim to the throne. Given how central that was to Volger, having his reaction be a pat quote in a newspaper seemed like a narrative cop-out. Even having Alek acknowledge that Volger would be pissed would have helped.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Now I have the third but not the second of the Hunger Games trilogy out from the library. I put both on hold, but the 3rd came available first and I was afraid not to get it. I think the 2nd actually is available, but was in a different section. Will have to check when I return the other stuff.

I reread Mansfield Park. It was okay. I think my biggest objection was the ending, wherein Austen seems to get bored and figure everyone knows how it's going to turn out anyway and just quits the narrative to tell us what happens.

I thought she always did that. She's the queen of the abrupt ending. "Reader, I married him." Boom!

Because books.

Psst, "Reader, I married him," was Bronte.

Yeah, see I thought that was too punchy and apt for Jane.

Not that she can't be punchy and apt, but her endings do tend to trail away rather than end with a bang line.

I had HUGE issues with Mansfield Park, mainly having Fanny marry the man who was her moral and intellectual inferior! AND and and NOT TO MENTION making Fanny Price the heroine is like a slap in the face to Lizzie lovers everywhere! fie!
