The plus about the Kindle for me is that you DO have to have the light on - it's NOT backlit. I find the e-ink much easier on my eyes, and especially for reading before bed. I mean, I spend a shocking number of hours each day reading backlit screens as it is.
We have a very odd book by E. Nesbit out of the library right now called Cockatoucan. Casper is sort of fascinated by it. And it was her birthday yesterday (E. Nesbit's, not Casper's). She led a very unusual life for someone born in 1858.

The black and white Nook isn't backlit either. It's e-ink too.
I love the Nook 2 - it's so elegant and sleek. But if I were going to buy a new e-reader I'd probably stick with Kindle because that's where my books are.
I love my kindle for reading, but I keep thinking I might want a nook color for magazines. I have too many stacks of them everywhere. You probably can't print up a recipe off of a nook though, can you?

You can print off an iPad - does Android support wireless printing?
One of the brilliant things about a Nook or a tablet is avoiding the printing of recipes. I used to "lug" my laptop into the kitchen, but no more!
How have I not worked out if I can print from either my tablet or my Nook? Slacker.
I do bring my iPad into the kitchen with me, but nervously. I need to get a waterproof case for it.
I use a gallon-sized ziploc bag with my iPad. The touch screen is still usable with it on.
Dan and I bought a color nook a few weeks ago as a mutal bday present, and it's fucking awesome.
Yes, the battery life is about 8 hours, but it charges really quickly, and if you have kids, the interactive books are cool as hell, and the color looks better than on a iPad.
We bought it mainly to be an e-reader, and because I already had 140 books on my PC Nook, but I am REALLY glad we did. It's an excellent e-reader (it's backlit, but at night, I just dial the brightness down to the lowest level, and have not problems with eyestrain) and it's a great mini-tablet, too.
It's a little heavier than the Kindle, but I usually read with a book propped on a pillow on my belly or on a pillow lying on my side in bed, so it's a non-issue for me.
I LURVES it.
