Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I dunno if I should put this in Lit or Tech, but I have to share: I am SO SUPER EXCITED to travel on vacation with my Kindle! I got a huge bunch of books from a friend (mostly just books I already own in ...book form) and have downloaded a bunch of books from Amazon (ouch my wallet!) and so now I have over 100 books on my kindle, waiting to be read on the plane and while traveling (including Rick Steve's Eastern Europe!). This is going to be SO MUCH MORE AWESOME than last time I flew internationally and took a whole bag of books with...I will travel so light! God willing and the kindle don't break, there will be NO REASON to run out of books! (I figure I'll still bring one or two regular ones for the few minutes of takeoff and landing that I can't read on kindle)

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

meara, I bring either a paperback or one (okay, two because, hello, return flights...) magazine for those times. My bags are could be so much lighter when traveling now.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK.

And there it is. Welcome to the nadir. The most pointless, grim part of a book filled with pointless grimness. Okay, Collins, WAR IS BAD. We GET it.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

Welcome to the nadir.

That's at least heartening.

I was close enough to the end that I thought I could just finish, but I just read enough into the next chapter to confirm what had happened and was like, you know what, I really can't go on right now. What the hell.

Oh P-C, right there with ya, even though it's been over a month since I finished it. I think I may have tossed the book across the room.

Steph, I'm over half way with Mortal Coil, and OMG I don't think I like where this is going. I can only read 5 or 10 pages a day 'cause it's my lunchtime reading but man, I'm afraid!

I felt like doing that! And the thing is, I actually like the way the scene was written, and I admire Collins for being so hardcore (I can just imagine that the Hollywood adaptation will not be so hardcore), and it's not like it was completely random, as we knew Prim was being trained to be a medic, so there's a deliciously horrible irony at play, especially given that this entire goddamn series was kicked off by Katniss's trying to save Prim's life, and now Prim dies in the rebellion Katniss inspired.

But seriously. Jesus Christ.
