Willow: Were there dolphins? Tara: Yes. Many dolphins at the pound. Willow: Was there a camel? Tara: There was the front of a camel. A half-camel.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Okay, this bit from Mark Reads the Hunger Games made me laugh and laugh (italics are the quote from the book):

I hear Cinna’s voice, carrying images of rich fabric and sparkling gems. “Katniss, the girl who was on fire.” What a good laugh the Gamemakers must be having over that one. Perhaps, Cinna’s beautiful costumes have even been brought on this particular torture for me. [Note: this is after Katniss was burned in Chapter 13.]

FUCK. How terrible. I didn’t even think of this. I guess the Gamemakers appreciate violent irony. So they’re like the very worst hipsters of all time or something.

That's AWESOME.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Ooh, I'm ahead of you, P-C! I just started Chapter 16.

Oh, cool. How's the weather over there? Bleak? Dismal? OMGWTF?

What chapter is the Mark Reads guy up to?

Amy, he's still in the first book, so he's completely safe to read.

Alan Cumming as Cinna is good, but I picture him younger. Like that Cheeks guy.

I don't know this Finnick guy, but I have a feeling he's going to show up soon.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Is discussing casting spoilers spoilery for the books? For instance- do you get annoyed hearing ideas about what a character is like before the author has had a chance to introduce him herself?

Personally, I'm pretty spoilerphobic, so now that I know this Finnick character exists, I don't want to know anything else about him! With these books in particular, I am loving having little to no clue what's in store for me (besides MORE PAIN).

I have mokingjay staring at me

Mocking you?

Ahh, just as I suspected. Perhaps further movie casting speculation could be moved to the movies thread.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Sorry! I forgot Finnick wasn't around in the first book.

Never mind him. He's boring and inconsequential. Finnick! My Finnick!

Because books.

Amy, he's still in the first book, so he's completely safe to read.

Oh, DUH. I wasn't even thinking.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

I still think Terry O'Quinn would make a fabulous Haymitch.

as for Peeta, i imagined the oldest brother from the Narnia movies.

Katniss is totally Lyndsy Fonseca.

"Oh no! Has falling sky liquid once again caused you the sadness?" -Starfire

I'm right there with you on Lyndsy Fonseca, tiggy! She looks really similar to how I pictured her when I first read the books, and Nikita has proven she can be badass!

I'm really worried about the casting. That could really make or break the movie.

RDJ for Haymitch seems too... in shape.
