Mal: That's not what I saw. You like to tell me what really happened? Book: I surely would. And maybe someday I will.

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I think we were talking Hunger Games casting in the movies thread and someone mentioned RDJ and I said, "hey, OK." but yeah Gleeson for me, Fields for you, is a lot closer to the way he seems to be depicted in the books.

Peeta in my brain looks a lot like my first high school boyfriend. I can't think of a modern actor... oooh wait, that guy from Friday Night Lights... one sec, I'll find him... Jesse Plemons

I look more rad than Lutheranism

But I had imagined someone more over the hill than his fine prime self.

Huh, you know, I assumed he was really old too, but he's at most 41, since he was in the Games 25 years ago.

But I think a District 12 age 41 is not like age 41 for us. I mean, in that it seems like life in District 12 ages the hell out of you, fast. And with the drinking (and drinking and drinking) that Haymitch does -- well, I guess that chronologically he can't be as old as I was picturing (dang, I was liking W.C. Fields), but I bet he looks and feels really fucking old.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh wow, 41? I was totally in a WC Fields place myself!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Or 43. I forget the upper limit of the reaping. But he's in his early forties. (Or late thirties, but I think Collins would have mentioned if he had managed to win when he was twelve or thirteen.)

Yep, he was 16 when he won. But I figured all that drinking.

Now Gale I have no idea. Three books in and I still don't have a firm image of him in my mind.

When you said FNL, I pictured Peeta as Jason Street and Gale as Matt Saracen.

Because books.

Gale is dark and sort of wolfish in my head. Peeta is tall, sturdy, and sort of golden. (Egg wash from the bakery maybe?)

I can't see RDJ playing Haymitch, except for RDJ can pretty much play anyone he wants to, but I imagined a bit older, a bit more corpulent, and tired-looking.

I have no idea who should play Kat. Mostly I just need to finish the books, since I'm more than halfway through Catching Fire now. I want to see P-C's spoilerfont, but I'm afraid he's a little ahead of me.

Oh! And Effie is totally Delores Umbridge in my head, except the nice cupcakes and rainbows version.

I am on Chapter 14. (As in, I just finished Chapter 13.)

Hee. Yeah, I hated her so much in the beginning, but she got better. I imagine her very skinny, though, not froglike.

I can't think of an Effie actress. Cinna is a unique creation in my brain too. I don't imagine I'll be happy with anyone they find to play Cinna.

I can't fix Cinna in my brain for some reason, Effie is Umbridge in my head, in spite of the book description. Haymitch is a mix of The Wizard of Oz, Brenden Gleeson and a friend of my dad's. In other words: my brain casting is strange.
