Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I need suggestions for "age-appropriate" gothy reading material for elementary-school babybats.

Such a great book. Merricat's one of the great goth/teen characters.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

The Midwive's Apprentice, and quite a few Jane Yolen books.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Wolves of Willoughby Chase, etc.? I'm not sure about the age. I seem to recall there were gothier Joan Aiken books, but I can't dredge up the titles - I know I read everything I could find at the library by her partly for the spooky and otherworldly vibe.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Jilli, have you considered Bradbury's The Halloween Tree?

Wolves of Willoughby Chase, etc.?

Oh yeah, that's perfect.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Jilli, I know you are not a fan of them for obvious reasons, but what about The Spiderwick Chronicles?

Something Wicked This Way Comes?

I really liked the Lois Duncan books when I was that age, esp. Down a Dark Hall.
