Well, it's just good to know that when the chips are down and things look grim you'll feed off the girl who loves you to save your own ass!

Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Haven't read any of those, SH. Though do recommend Jes Battis, whose main protagonist is a straight female, but her roommate (who is a huge part of both books out so far) and a lot of other characters are queer/trans/etc (and have love lives etc). It's all set in Vancouver and is very much a large part of the scene. I was quite pleased.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

SH, I haven't read those particular works, but I did love Kadrey's Metrophage and Shirley's early cyberpunk, particularly City Come A Walkin'.

SH, of those listed, my husband really likes Jeff Vandermeer, though he hasn't read that particular one. Have you seen the Outer Alliance? It's a glbtq friendly group of authors, editors, publishers, etc.

The members are listed here: [link]

Of them, I've read some of their works. I love Nicola Griffith's work (mysteries). I haven't read, but in my TBR pile is a bunch of Lynn Flewelling (dark fantasy).

There's Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint, which I love (fantasy).

From DP, there's Faerie Blood by Angela Korrat'i which has some gay supporting characters, also set in Seattle, only available in ebook (contemporary fantasy--elvish elvis impersonator and fairy bikers), and a pretty edgy YA, Mary Borsellino's Wolf House also available in e . It's an ensemble cast, and some of the characters are gay or bi (contemporary vampires). Both of those will be in print next year.

Electromagnetic candy! - Stark

I have read the Flewelling books, and Swordspoint (and the other books in that series).

That's an impressive list of recommendations - THANK YOU. :)

(I think...I work with someone last name Korrat'i - it couldn't POSSIBLY be her...could it?)

There's a sequel with the same characters, Privilege of the Sword. Much squeeing when I read it.

Yes, it could be her. She's a software something in Seattle.

I liked the sequel a lot.

How very odd! That hasn't happened for a while. Possibly because I'm playing hooky.

DP (http://drolleriepress.com) is trying to publish more gay and gay friendly fiction. We have a really powerful lesbian fantasy novel with interesting world building coming up soon (probably October) by Teresa Wymore, and we have a couple of interesting pieces in the anthology Needles & Bones.

I wish I was playing hookie, but I'm at work--AKA watch movies on the company's dime day.

When is Drollerie's deadline on the Trafficking in Magic stories?
