I just had the sweetest phone conversation with Kara. She asked if I had a mother and father. I said yes. Then she wanted to talk to them. I told her they didn't live here. Then she asked to talk to my grandparents, and I explained that they live in Chicago. She got very sad and said, "So you're all alone?"

I then went on to explain that I have Toto and roommates. She had no idea what roommates were, so I tried to explain. What she ended up understanding, though, was that Emily and Not!Emily are my kids, and I couldn't convince her of otherwise.
