Last minute charges- yeah. We ended up putting down a lower percentage down than we wanted because even though we thought we could stretch our savings to cover it, I knew from other first time homebuyers that mystery fees do and will crop up and we figured we should just play it safe and keep as much cash on hand as was feasible. Instead of investing it in the house. Which still drives me mad, but it was absolutely the right thing to do. Because we burned through a lot of cash, not just in aquiring the house, but in moving and setting up.
Um, not to scare you, sweet Deena.
I just returned from a most delicious Event Planner's lunch which included a wine flight of 4 french wines (Pinot Blanc, Poully Fousse, Pino Noir, Bordeaux), vanilla marinated scallop in buerre blanc, and beef short rib atop truffle mashed potato with braised leeks and mushrooms. Then a mache salad to clear the palate, and a variety of sinful pastries. The woman in charge of healthy eating gave a talk during dessert. Really, she should have pitched he spiel during th salad course. That was the only healthy part in the whole thing.
Just found out about an additional fee. We'll have to have about $200 extra at closing for interest because we want to close before the 31st. Of course, if we wait until the 31st to close, we'll have to pay that much in rent, if not for a whole additional month, so.. yay us.
Goood morning Vietnam! I'm getting ready for my appointment with the Labor Relations board. I get to see my evil ex-boss, yay. I'm vacillating between smug calm (the paperwork is very clearly in my favor) and sweaty terror (eee! They were mean!). DH, bless him, has taken the afternoon off so he can go with me and hold my hand.
I got a pretty dress for the F2F. It's purply-blue with a swirly skirt.
It's the BEE!
The dress sounds lovely, and I intend to hug your husband when I see him. He's such a great guy.
{{{vw}}} take care of you, bug.
DH, bless him, has taken the afternoon off so he can go with me and hold my hand.
Bless him. I'm so very glad the two of you have each other. Lots of meeting goes your way ~ma, Katie.
Awww. Your DH is a good sort. Maybe you can stave off the terror by reminding yourself how satisfying it will be to have the privilege of seeing evil ex-boss EAT IT in person?
The dress color sounds lovely, and swirly skirts are always of the good.
But why do they need to know why money appears in your account?
I was told to prevent money laundering.
Ugh, Deena. I guess I lucked out when I bought this condo. A lot of the fees were covered by the seller because they were trying to unload the last 2 buildings worth of converted apartments, they even paid the first year's property taxes. All I had to come up with was some earnest money and then the downpayment check at closing. It was a very sweet deal compared to what regular homebuyers go through.
Well, I'm off to the wilds of Michigan for the weekend. I'm going to be staying at my aunt's house while I go in to Ann Arbor to visit her in the hospital. It will be nice to see all my cousins again, but the situation sucks. While my aunt is physically recovering from the stroke, regaining some use of limbs and facial muscles, the congestive heart failure is just wearing her down. I know that at 79 she's lived a long and adventurous life, I'm not nearly ready to see her as frail when I'm so used to her fire and vitriol (do not even mention the Shrub in her hearing.) Anyway, I may be fairly greyish through Sunday. Take care of yourselves if I don't get a chance to pop in until then!
Katie! Good luck with the Labor Relations folks, you'll massacre the Evil Ex-Boss.
Okay, really, really outta here, now.
