"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

I liked Pedro and Me -- it's pretty clear, from the style, that Winick started out doing funny kinds of comics rather that adventure-stuff. Considering I watched it on television and knew the events of the novel front to back, it was a good retelling, affectionate, funny. Geared at a teen audience, I think, which is sort of odd because today's teens were like 5 when that Real World season came out.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Yahtzee offering potential Whedonverse fic, including possibly a "Phoenix Burning" sequel, for donations to the John Kerry campaign.

Given that she left the Whedonverse with no small amount of bitterness over plot developments, this might be your last shot at it.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

shalott and Ellen Fremendon have also offered up fannish contribution, from drabbles to vids to shalott completing her Harry Potter series.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

I think it's kind of neat, the whole fan the vote deal. Not sure how well it'll work, but you know. Every little bit and all that.

The bids on shalott's vid offer are up to $250.

Wow.

That's pretty damned impressive.

Did you see how high bids went on the VividCon auction? I was aghast.

Although if I were single and didn't have to account to anyone for the use of our shared money (and didn't have a mortgage), I might have been willing to pay $600 for a vid by sisabet or Lum.

You sip / say it's your crazy / straw say it's you're crazy / as you bicycle your soul / with beauty in your basket

I know, dude. A vid by sisabet to your specifications? It's like standing in an art shop agonizing over the $200 beautiful blown-glass lamp, or $300 hand-made book.

I couldn't even afford the $80 teapot.

Well, I may have just stepped in it.

I posted on FantheVote, and pointed out that conveying fanfic and fanart in exchange for cash donations is a violation of copyright, and could get both the recipients of the donations and the fans themselves in trouble.

I'd hate to see that happen, but I get the sense that none of these people actually thought about it before they got underway.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Hey! I'm looking for a story I remember being from anonymous_co, which was a weird but very very funny semi-RPF with PG and CKR bouncing from fanfic AU to AU trying to get back to the real world. It has some marvelous scenes, and it's meta-as-all-hell... plus, it's one of the very few RP stories that falls squarely under my squick threshold because the author makes clear that she isn't writing her PG and CKR to be 'real' at all.

It's not on DSA (if it ever was) and I can't remember where I ran across it. Oh, yeah, and I have no idea what the title is.

I was kind of thinking about recommending it for ds_flashback, but a) I have to find it again and b) I have to reread it to make sure it's as good as I remember.

I can remember discussing it in the old Due South topic we had... anybody?
