From a not-overwhelmingly-good crossover, but this made me snicker:
Gozer's gaze snapped toward the discomfited archeologist, and his eyes glowed with a strange mixture of curiosity and contempt. The dog-monster sniffed the air and growled, as its master asked in the distorted tones of the Goa'uld, "Are you a god?"
"Well, no. But I'm married to one," Daniel replied.
I just read the new Herself story.
It's great, but, dammit...
Spoilers follow: I hate it when a writer takes two characters, makes them happy -- an earned happiness, not a fluffy-bunnies happiness -- and then decides to torture them. I would have liked the fic much better if it had ended with Buffy and William getting engaged: to have Spike all happy and human and suntanned, and then reduce him to a vamp eating rats, is ... it's just mean. If TPtB made Spike human in such a conditional way as they do in the story, I'd say the Gods were mean; for this story, Herself is God.
I mean, I understand that it's supposed to be literary.or something. But, dammit, the story is basically highly literate smutfit. It doesn't need to have a literary, nightmare-esque ending! A fluffy bunny one would be perfect! Really!
In short, the story would be perfect if it ended about 5 pages sooner.
But damn, the boys are cute together.
Blair just squicks the hell out of me. I don't know why, can't explain it. Part of it is probably related to his weird resemblance to the guy in
Mask,
but mostly it's just this strange, visceral reaction, and I can't read
Sentinel
fic at all.
Just skipping to the end to tell Deena that I am sure that she will LOVE Herself's fic. I almost have no words for how much I love it. Since I rarely read books now, she is pretty much my favorite author, fanfic or not.
Thanks, Susan. It's nice to know I'm not nuts.
Thanks, Sophia! I probably won't get to do any reading until Tuesday when Greg goes back to work. Having him home is nice, but totally messes up my playtime *g*.
I loved it completely, but I'm a big fan of Herself.
I'm a big fan of Herself's, too--Bittersweets may be my all-time favorite fanfic series, though Anna S's Season Noir is neck-and-neck with it. But I felt like in this case she was going for HSQ, but my reaction was, "But...but...that's not fair!"

Same here. And it made me start thinking about the logic of the story as a whole -- if Spike can't leave the island, why does he have a passport, and how did he get it? which is never a good thing.
Interestingly, I don't think my reaction would have been quite as strong if Spike had just died upon leaving the island. Killing him would have felt "fair" to me -- sad, but fair. The actual ending just made me angry.
But in general, I really like the way Herself writes, and loved the "Bittersweets" series. She does the best Spike voice of anyone, pretty much.
