Some of the most unlikely people read and write fanfic. One fic writer I know is in my Bible study at church. She's a 40 yr. old mom. Last night she wore a turtleneck with a print of kittens and balls of yarn. She uses a Longaberger basket for a purse.
When I've talked to the non-initiated about fic, they generally seem to think it's cool (I have not yet told them about slash).
How long before "Mary Sue" makes it into mainstream parlance, I wonder?
I think both the objection is about characters conscious of fanfic within pieces of fanfic.
You mean we're not mainstream? I'm crushed. Everyone I know understands what "Mary Sue" means.
I use the term Mary Sue. Of course, I have to explain what it means, but ....
Actually, there is only one piece of fic about characters writing fic; it was in Stargate, by rather campy authors. There's one episodes where the characters discover a show has been made about their adventures, and two of the characters beging to write fanfiction, at first as a joke, about it. It was well formatted, pretty funny. Fairly true to the characters, as well. I might see if I can dredge up a link to show the class.

Not counting the other pieces of fic about characters writing fic, right?

Typo or missing word, s.a.? Because I'm fairly sure I can come up several hundred off-hand, without really trying.
Er. There was supposed to be a bit about how that fanfiction was the only one of the type that I liked. I think it's the whole two hours of sleep that's ferwonking my brain.
So Nutty, are you still willing to be my beta? I have a chunk done and it might be helpful to have someone else look at it.

Possibly tonight, if you kick my ass hard enough. For tomorrow I see
Secretary
with Ellen and then my brain will be full of James Spader.
