S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

If you want some more rec sites, Deb, email me and I can comb through my bookmarks.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Mostly, my question on recs is self-serving at the moment (time, she is crunched right now, as in, none to spare). How does one know if one is rec - recced -OK, I give up, what's the appreviation? Is it checking all the lists, or what?

a real live crossbow, with real live bolts. I don't think everyone's got one of those.

Snerk. I've got three of those. Plus half a dozen bows, a dozen swords, and the aforesaid trebuchet. No, to be honest, the trebuchet was disassembled for the winter. For some reason the neighbors get nervous about 12-foot-high siege engines in the next yard over.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

For some reason the neighbors get nervous about 12-foot-high siege engines in the next yard over.

If the siege engine makes them nervous, they should build themselves even bigger siege engines! Silly neighbors -- haven't they ever heard of the arms race?

Depends, Deb. Sometimes someone lets you know, othertimes you just wander by and see it and get all jazzed.

It's easy for me, because there's only about 4 or 5 recs sites that cover Farscape, and I know most of the site-owners, so either they tell me it's going up, or I wander by as soon as I hear it's updated.

Buffyverse would be harder cause it's so frelling big.

For me, I am trying to email writers when I rec them, as a courtesy.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

In some fandoms, it's polite-to-required for the archivist to contact the author first, obtain permission, and then post the rec and email the link to the author.

In other fandoms, you happen upon the rec in the strangest places, unawares.

I tend to prefer to be notified before/during a site goes to press, because there are icky sites with which I'd really prefer not to be associated, but I'm aware (a) I'm a dinosaur and (b) I've got a basic blanket understanding with people I know at all and (c) this is the internet, so no point in howling over it once it's done.

Also, there are archives and recs sites. Lots of recs sites nowadays are just lists of links, rather than archives, because it's so easy to link to a story on an author's site or on an archive like BFA.

Back in the old days t waves cane at Nutty you generally notified/asked permission to put something on a rec site because it was also an archive.

I check my site stats regularly, and that's how I sometimes find out I've been recced by people. Or I google my ficposting name.

Got it. Thanks, everyone - I am extremely new at this.

I've got three of those.

Yeah, but you said everybody's got one. They don't. just a few of us.

Connie, where on earth do you live? I don't do swords anymore, or the normal 60-pound pull bow; even before the MS, plastic in wrists and fingers disallowed it. Still love knives, though.

Googling my fic name is fun. I found Te had made an exception to reccing WIPs to rec Career Change. I'm tempted to email her and point out that Chapter 4 is out.

Connie, where on earth do you live?

Utah. Hubby is a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, and the neighborhood is used to the every-summer fighter practice in the front yard.

edit: You mean--not everyone has a crossbow in the house? Everyone I know does.
