Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I think I would have been up shit creek if I'd tried to find a town in New Jersey that starts with Vee.

Vernon? Verona? Veehauken!

OK, that's stretching it a bit.

I pretty much have two pseuds that I use. Hil R. is an actual nickname plus a letter that I can sort of claim as a last initial, though it isn't the one I actually use. Then I've got another that's just sort of derived from my actual name in a weird, roundabout logic that doesn't really make much sense unless you know all the intervening steps, so it doesn't really look much like "Hil R." at all. Right now, that one's just used for my LiveJournal, though I've used it for a few other random things before.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

I'm s.a. in real life and online. It's technically a nickname, not a pseud, but there's no distinguishing factor between RL and net.

Really? So your friends call you ess ay? That's pretty cool.

Yup. Actually, my best friends love it because there's this thirty second confusion where they're trying to figure out if my name is the Spanish word for friend (ese), a paper (essay), or they just do that "Wha-huh?" face. That's the best one.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

"ese" is Spanish for "friend"? I thought it was Spanish for "that".

I go by ita, serenada (my capoeira name), and capoeira_girl. So anyone that knows me can tell it's me. I've also started going by rank_tyro. Can't quite explain that one. Wait, no, then there's velvet and the derivatives.

I'm not as straightforward as I'd hoped.

I have been told that I speak French like a Swiss goatherder. Also that I have the cutest little Parisian accent. What can you do?

Hm. All I know is: "Hey! Ese!" Slang?

If I only had a brain...

Slang. "Hey, you there!", more or less.

"Friend" is "amiga" or "amigo".

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

ita is correct.

Not that I remember most of my Spanish anymore (Puerto Rican slang, I still have some memory of..). But I did once try to read Garcia Marquez in it. Which broke me.
