So, how was your summer? Mine was fun. Saw some fish. Went mad with hunger. Hallucinated a whole bunch.

t Captain Tangent!

Yo, All-knowing queens of Ficcish Crack - is there Fight Club fic out there? Because I was watching it again this evening, and it struck me that there really should be some nice meta-ish fic out there. Slash would be obvious, but even not slash would be fine.

Thanks for all the fish.

This is a very interesting coversation.

It's funny, because I want to read everything I can get my hands on about the behind the scenes of LOTR - the fact that they (cast and crew) seem to love the movie so much enhances things for me. So why not imagine scenarios? Why not write them and read them? Huh....

I think, for me, it crosses too close to those people who confuse the actor with the character; who think that the show stops if they don't watch it. Who pelt a soap-opera vixen with insults for breaking up a 'marriage'.

It's somehow... ... Just too much wish fulfilment. It's too much control over real people. And historical fiction doesn't bother me as much, because I frequently don't think of them as real people. Still, that biography of JFK where the writer wrote imaginary conversations and thoughts for JFK struck me as totally wrong, because it was presented in the context of non-fiction. And, oddly, there are some real historical events and people that I think are diminished by fictional accounts. Argh, this is making my brain hurt.

Okay, so RPF is fiction - it says so right in the title... It doesn't interest me in the way that a true story might.

Thanks for all the fish.

Fay, there is, though I cannot vouch for the quality. I think that polyamorous recs have recc'd some; you know that will be good.

Bas, I think, is the one with a Fight Club archive, but ravenswing seems to be down at the moment.

You sip / say it's your crazy / straw say it's you're crazy / as you bicycle your soul / with beauty in your basket

RPS --> RPF -->

And I make no difference between those things; but then, I've already (over)said my piece, so I'll stop.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Yeah, slippery slope there -- but I do think depicting an actor wandering around a New Zealand neighborhood with his sword strapped on is a bit less intrusive than depicting him screwing a costar. Or his ex-wife, or whatever. Remember: continuum. :-)

And I don't, at all. But! To each her own.

Indeed - but the only distinction I've been used to making between Real People Fic and Real People Slash is that one is specifically homoerotic (which doesn't necessarily mean sexual or explicit) whereas the other is a blanket term for all Real People Fiction, Heterosexual or Homosexual, pornographic or mundane.
