Who really knew that in the general public, though? Joe Public looks at the credits and doesn't see Danny Boyle in the writer or director slot and thinks it's a crappy knock-off sequel.
Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Yes that's exactly what I thought at first.
Joe Public looks at the credits and doesn't see Danny Boyle in the writer or director slot and thinks it's a crappy knock-off sequel.
Betchya Joe Public doesn't look at the credits, or if he does, it's not for the director.
let's say Joe Geek then. Joe Public probably doesn't know who Danny Boyle is.
I don't think that there's a significant enough window of people who care that it's not Danny Boyle, but who don't find out he has some involvement. Not to skew numbers too much.
There's a lot fewer Joe Geeks than Joe Publics. On the other hand, Joe Geeks probably make up a significant number of frequent movie-goers....
Kate P, regarding your whitefont, my mother after the movie was over told me that when my dad had his affair he cited the "you love the baby more than me" excuse wrt my older sister.
I agree with Zenkitty about the portrayal of the husband.
Nathan Fillion needs to be on my screen more often.
Zenkitty, that is apparently true. I have a friend who's a big Pirates fan, and she said the writers gave an interview to that effect. Apparently they based the story on the opera of the Flying Dutchman. So it was the fact that Calypso didn't show up to meet Davy Jones after ten years that doomed him to staying on the sea forever.
It definitely wasn't clear in the context of the movie, and changes my interpretation of it. Of course, I didn't see the happy reunion scene after the credits either.
After reading a lot of meh about it, saw PotC3 yesterday and was pleasantly suprised at how much I liked it.
Honestly? I think my lack of enjoyment for 2 was, in addition to rolling my eyes at over-the-top tributes to King Kong, the absence of Geoffrey Rush. Damn, that man makes Barbosa more fun than any pirate since Capt. Jack Sparrow. And now? I want to run out and see everything Naomie Harris has ever done.
She played the kick-ass pharmacist in 28 Days Later, actually.
