Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Went to see Knocked Up last night. Sold out. Booo!
Saw Spidey 3 instead.
Booo.
Waitress was sold out yet again, so it's going to be week 3 of release before I get to see it. Though I'm increasingly confident it will be around for weeks and weeks. The last time an indie film sold out that much in this venue it was Brokeback Mountain, and that had a guaranteed audience of every interested gay man within 80 miles of Memphis.
I finally saw Brokeback Mountain a couple of weeks ago.
I have to admit, it was kinda blah to me. Now, I don't know how much that had to do with the movie or how much it had to do with the fact that I had just spent two days in Wyoming.
Why don't you guys go see movies on weekdays? They never sell out. Well once, the first show of The Departed sold out on a Monday but that's just 'cause it was in a smaller house.
I was amazed today that the theatre we were in for P3 had only about ... forty people in it, if my estimate is correct. LOTS of empty ROWS, not just seats.
But it was the third show -- 12:50, with 12:10 and 12:somethingelse is two other theaters, and three shows scheduled around 4ish. Still, I expected more people since it's only the second weekend, right?
Why don't you guys go see movies on weekdays?
Usually cause I'm working full time and then there's the munchkin. And school, usually.
Why don't you guys go see movies on weekdays?
I get home from work around 8pm or 8:30 most nights, and me going to a 10pm movie after 12 hours of work and driving = paying $8 for an uncomfortable nap.
OK weekends it is. Try going around 3:00 if there is such a show, there's usually a lull then. Also the first show of the day usually doesn't sell out. Sometimes you can get in to the very last show, too.
I saw Knocked Up. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Judd Apatow is a good movie-maker.
