And in some lights he looks like a beefier CKR.

The DH and I totally thought this also.

Just back from PotC 3. It's...long. Very, very long.

Did it convey that pummelled-about-the-head-and-shoulders feeling of PotC2? Was it Bruckheimertastic?

Thrive to spite them

Also during Casino Royale I got really annoyed at the scenes in the airport where none of the employees were wearing badges. Everyone wears picture id badges of some kind in the airport, even the security people, and they have to be visibile.

It was a weird thing to bug me but it did.

Vesper would have been cooler if it was her cunning plan the whole time and she was evil rather than tragically blackmailed.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

And...good?

No, but I'm probably the wrong person to ask, since I thought the second one was crap too. This one, to me, wasn't even fun to watch, though -- at least during DMC I kind of enjoyed it while the movie was going on, and it wasn't until afterwards when I started to think about it that I realized how much about it I disliked. This one was just exhausting. And long. So long...

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Oh man! I really want to know who AMH plays in The Dark Knight!

I think there was probably a good movie somewhere in PotC2, but it was pretty hard to tell under all the crap.

I think bringing ALL the characters back from the first one and trying to tell one long story was a mistake -- they'd have been much better off going with an Indiana Jones / James Bond model and made each movie a standalone Jack Sparrow Adventure, with some background continuity and recurring character cameos thrown in for flavor. Because as pretty as Orlando Bloom is, did we really need 6 more hours of Angsty Will Turner And His Enourmous Angsty Angst?

information libertarian

Yes! Imagine if #2 had just been The Adventures of Jack Sparrow and Scruffy!Norrington, without all this silly Keira Knightley and Orlando business.

It almost was anyway, and excising Will Turner and Petulant-Little-Girl-Fit Swann would have gotten rid of most of the worst parts.

I still mean to start a piratey tavern called "Swann and Sparrow" though. For the two or three minutes before I'm sued by the Mouse.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

So (shuffling feet, looking about in furtive shame), if one were the kind of tasteless loser person who actually preferred the second PotC movie to the first, who liked the too-many-storylines and the Keira and Orly bits and just generally grooved on all of it -- say that someone here (not that there is any such person) were that kind of person, would it be reasonably safe to assume that such a person, loser though they be, would find this last installment pleasing?

squee?

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I saw PoTC: DMC on cable this weekend, and I thought it held up nicely.
