Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Oh, that's fabulous, Jess. I think I'm going to have to get SotD, too. I'm not sure about the next one, though. They showed a trailer for "Run, Fatboy, Run" and while it had funny moments, it just didn't have a premise that really interested me.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

All of Ray Harryhausen's creatures, in chronological order, set to Tito Puente

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Oh, one more Hot Fuzz thing I wanted to ask!

At both of the screenings we went to, DH and I were practically the only ones in the theatre laughing at the line "Forget it Nick, it's Sanford."

So my question to the Buffista hivemind is, is it really that obscure a reference, or just not as funny as we thought it was?

[edited to fix the quote]

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That's not obscure.

The evil is this way?

That line may be too obscure for the audience (although I got it). Maybe it's not a great fit for that point in the movie.

Too obscure for me. Is it a TV ref, a book ref, a movie ref?

Aaah. I'm not sure I even saw it, only clips on other shows.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Okay, I just rewatched Chinatown last week and I went huh? at Jessica's post. But I can be dense that way.

In other Jessica news, she's just as cute pregnant, and her new place is fab to boot! Also? The Lives of Others is every bit as good as she said it was.

I realized after I saw Hec's post that I'd gotten it slightly wrong anyway. (Pegg/Wright/Frost didn't.)
