Oh yes, and Jessica Harper, when she turns up in one of the musical numbers looking radiant in total contrast to the rest of how she played that character, was a total shock.

I love her. Her transformation is wonderful, and I almost didn't mind that she didn't really get to sing.
I love the hell out of that movie. The longer version is fantastic, too, but it doesn't have Christopher Walken doing the soft shoe.
