She was pretty unpleasant about leaving, wasn't she? I mean, I can't blame an actress for thinking "Hey, I don't really want to be doing Shakespeare at forty having the audience yell out "Hey, Buffy, where's your stake?' or for finding week-to-week tv rigorous, but there is such a thing as...gratitude or something. She could've been working in Wal-Mart.
Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Yes, she was.
Yep, she played Dawn's friend.
And, should it concern me that I followed all of Gris' parenthetical asides with no problems?
I think she's an excellent TV actress with skills that don't translate well to the big screen. (She could probably do ensemble comedy fairly well. Maybe an ensemble comedy law show? Or even ensemble drama, if one must. She'd be good in a law show of any sort.)
Yes, she was.
Oh yeah, I forgot! Not exactly the highlight of her acting career, though. She was also in The Ring for about 2 minutes before dying a horrible death, thus making her not so much a SMG follower to the American Remake of Japanese Remakes as a leader. Sort of. Technically.
She could've been working in Wal-Mart.
Nah. She was working in daytime tv on a soap (Susan Lucci's character's daughter). If she hadn't landed Buffy, I suspect she'd have a few daytime emmy's to her name.
I agree with Plei in that she's a good small screen actress with a modicum of talent. I would hope that even if she resents Buffy a little, that she understands and respects Joss and what the show did for her--but she may only do that when she visits her accountant.
Huh, I thought SMG was pretty consistently outstanding as Buffy. She's just picking the wrong big screen roles.
I'm with Gloomcookie. I don't much like the actress on a personal level, but I thought she generally did a very good job across the board (other than "Halloween") until the writing started letting her down. And I've thought her good in every film role I've seen her in except for the execrable Scooby Doo movies.

Right. Even her attempts to do indie movies have been backfiring (see HARVARD MAN - or don't - and SOUTHLAND TALES which was the other big bete noir at Cannes besides Marie Antoinette - and was much more roundly despised, and has yet to pick up a distributor).
She's just picking the wrong big screen roles.
Two words: Simply Irresistible.
I think The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing could be a good choice, though, if the movie's any good. Oh, and the Alice movie, too.
I never understood all the distaste for SMG. But I don't read a lot of the personal stuff about her.
