And thanks for the prompts everyone. I DID check the corners and I did get the stairs. I'm wondering if some answer I gave early on registered on the picture but not on the counter. Grasping there, but I can't find any other explanation.
P-C, I actually got the lantern-guy pretty early by thinking of movies that should be included, and then looking at the picture.
I used this strategy too, but it got me into trouble at one point because I kept trying to find a place to include:

I'm still stuck on the kids, the reaper, and the map. Plus, two clues that haven't been mentioned that I can't seem to find. I think I got all the sides and corners though.
Beej -- there are two up in/near the tower that I didn't see for a while. Or are you sure all 3 M&Ms are blacked out, since only their props change color?

Okay your clues are making me laugh because I still have no fricking idea what any of them are. But I did figure out the dogs, which was the clue I couldn't find.
