Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Sweet Italian Jesus. I need to own that movie.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I need to buy that movie for people.

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

"And just in case you needed more cognitive dissonance in your life, here's a squid on an elliptical machine." I could not stop laughing.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Jessica, thanks for the whitefont. I know of several other people who will be glad of the information.

As for the squid movie...there are no words. Except that I really, really want a LJ icon of the squid on the elliptical.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

I have NO idea what is up with the guy with the beer can on his head.

That looks like one of the Tokyo Shock Boys!

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Paris Hilton considered for the role of the young Mother Teresa? [link]

Until someone tells me otherwise, I'm gonna assume that Hilton is being punk'd in a really creative way.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I heard about that on the radio the other day, and immediately envisioned Holy Movie in the Scary Movie and Date Movie mold.

We understand -- kind of -- that there is a class of moviegoer that will be charmed by pictures revolving around the antics of dogs, horses, or sassy kangaroos. But if you are in that class and think this one looks kind of good, you need to have all the facts: Entertainment Weekly says that Paul Walker plays a scientist.

Oooooh, burn.

I feel protective of On A Clear Day. Sure, we've seen the movie a million times, but it's charming! Billy Boyd!

And I wonder what's the deal with black guys in fat-maternal-figure drag. Their target audiences seem to love it. There's probably a sociology study in there.
