I want to torture you. I used to love it, and it's been a long time. I mean, the last time I tortured someone, they didn't even have chainsaws.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I was just chatting with a co-worker as she was getting ready to go home, and got onto the subject of drag queens (invite for a show tomorrow night from the Chicagoistas!), which made me ask her if she had ever seen Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. She hadn't, but when I mentioned who was in it, she asked if it was available for rent. I mentioned the remake To Wong Foo..., and she had seen that one, but could never remember the name of it.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

To Wong Foo isn't a remake of Priscilla, as best I interpret them. Sure, two movies about drag queens and road trips and redemption. But remake implies much more similarity than I feel exists.

I also don't think you can remake a 94 film in 95. Turnaround time's too short.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Also, Priscilla is an absolutely wonderful film and Wong Fu sucks.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Does not.

I like them both, but differently.

Okay, it does have some good stuff in it, but it's really not a great film. (Which is no reason not to like it--hell, I love many films which aren't very good)

Oh Gods, it's so far away from being a good film.

It's a fun film, of no particular depth. I absolutely don't think it sucks, though.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Wesley Snipes alone made that movie for me.

I recently saw "Priscilla" again. I prefer it to "To Wong Foo...", I like that Priscilla is grittier, I guess is the best way to put it, and that the charactors aren't all portrayed as overly-"good". I think it's more realistic in terms of what could happen to a trio of drag queens in the middle of Australia or the US. It's been a while since I've seen "To Wong Foo..."
