Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I'm not reading the white font since I want to see the movie, but sj mentions one of my pet peeves:

but I did think she was wearing too much obvious looking, modern looking make-up for the time period.

There are subtle ways of doing make-up that look like they aren't even there yet still enhance a person's looks. It's one of the things I like about the period pieces for the 17th and 18th centuries. The style of make-up was so different as to look bizarre to us now, but at least when they make those movies they're going for veracity.

Editted because sj is not Nutty.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

We watched V for Vendetta and March of the Penguins this weekend.

I LOVED V for Vendetta. Loved loved loved. I need to finish reading the comic.

March of Penguins was great. I want a baby penguin more than anything now.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

I want a baby penguin more than anything now.

More than a camel?

Shit's all sorts of different now.

In our current living situation, I'd rather the baby penguin. However, when we actually have space for a camel, I'm totally getting one.

Compassionately intolerant

Main beef is...that there were more butt shots than chest shots, and the butt? Not that special.

My thought exactly. Right after, jeez, that was bizarre and I heart Dwight Yokum.

Plus...the kinda stringy calves. I worship Jason Staitham's pecs, (and accent and chrome dome and square jaw)but the rest? I'm disappointed!

Aimee, with all due respect to the terminal cuteness of every baby penguin in existance...when you get one, be sure to get nose plugs too. This former penguin wrangler (Seaworld San Diego, yonks ago) sees them as just one thing...stinky poop machines!

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I would have liked more Statham shirt off scenes, myself. [link]

AmiƩe, do you know how to knit? 'cause you can knit with camel yarn.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I don't know how to knit. But I might have to learn!

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

I just saw my first preview for Flyboys.

HOLY CARP! This will probably get me out to the theater. It looks quite spectacular. Dean Devlin producing. Tcheky Karyo! Jean Reno! WWI biplane pilots! Way cool arial battles! Exploding zeppelins!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Pan's Labyrinth is the best movie since EVER. It doesn't come out until December (29th!) and I need to see it again RIGHT NOW. Life is so unfair.

(Yes, I know it's going to be at the NYFF. But those tickets are wicked expensive.)
