I'd rather stay home and watch television. It's often funnier than killing stuff.

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Cruel Intentions 2 was a reworked Fox pilot, with bonus nudity! That I (self-pimp alert)recapped.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Peter Jackson will remake The Dam Busters, a film I've never heard of.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

Dude needs to stop re-making old movies and do the Hobbit. I hate to say it, but Ian McKellan isn't getting any younger. (Yes, I know there's still a big legal mess with the rights, but I want to see it and I can't imagine anyone else playing Gandalf.)

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I'm heartened by the fact that McKellen tends to play older than he actually is. In interviews and such he seems more hale and hearty than he does in the movies.

Plus, sheer fabulosity should see him through into his 90s at least...

Clash of the Titans:

Wal-Mart, which accounts for roughly 40% of all DVD sales nationwide, is not happy about Apple's plans to distribute movies on the iTunes store, and is making its feelings very clear to movie studios. "The notion of kids running around with full-length movies on new, wider-screen iPods that Apple is expected to unveil as well is causing grief in Bentonville, according to Hollywood executives. The $312 billion a year retailer, they say, wants concessions that could include lower DVD wholesale prices... A large wholesale cut for Wal-Mart, of course, would amount to hundreds of millions in lost studio revenues each year at a time when DVD sales are slowing." According to the article, only Disney has agreed to let Apple sell movies. Other studios may come later, but are waiting to see what happens.

In related news, I read a rumor that iTunes will price movies at $14.99 for newer ones and $9.99 for older ones.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

So, if I'm going to go to the movies this weekend, what should I see? Nothing playing looks especially appealling. Is there something I'm missing? Recently, I've seen Little Miss Sunshine and Idlewild.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

This Film is Not Yet Rated and Riding Alone For Thousands of Miles both just opened (in NYC, anyway). Oh, and the Quad still has Viva Pedro! going on through the rest of September.

DH is also telling me from the other room that we have to see The Illusionist and Half-Nelson this weekend, so I guess those are out too.

Ooh, The Illusionist is by my house, so there's an option for if I don't make it out of Queens this weekend. Sweet. And I do want to see Half Nelson, but I have to look it up everytime I see the name to remember what movie it is. Bad call on the naming, I'd say.
